Peter to get free medical treatment from tomorrow

After a series of publications by The Guardian on Sunday regarding Alex Peter’s heart problem and a fractured leg, the government has assured to support the patient with free medical treatment.

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health and Social Welfare Dr Donan Mmbando said the patient should report to his office on Monday morning to receive instructions on how to get treatment at Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH).

Heart complications of Alex (II) had been diagnosed four years ago at CCBRT, TMJ and Regency hospitals, according to the patient mother, Flora.

Peter’s mother, who hails from Mbezi Malamba Mawili, Dar es Salaam, campaigned to collect about Sh7.5 million for India trip for surgical procedures.

While campaigning to seek assistance, the two were involved in a motorcycle accident at Kiluvya in Coast Region, which left Alex’s right leg ruptured.
Alex was admitted to Tumbi Hospital and his mother was advised to look for Sh300, 000 for full treatments.

Si(11) nce Alex was diagnosed with heart complications, he has been unable to walk, talk or sit without a support to his back. Last week, Flora found media coverage about the plight of her child.

Dr Mmbando responded, saying: “On the issue of medical services the mother took a wrong approach …the government directs no one to collect funds for treatment.”

He added that Alex will receive all treatment he needs at the hospital from tomorrow.
