Government to construct, rehabilitate courts.

The government plans to rehabilitate about 165 courts and construct more than 100 new others in a bid to improve legal service delivery in the country.
 
Constitution and Legal Affairs Ministry deputy ministry Ummy Mwalimu however did not mention how much the exercise will cost but insisted that plans are underway to carry out the exercise in 2015/16 financial year.
 
The minister was reacting to a supplementary question by Kwela MP Ignas Aloyce Malocha (CCM) who wanted to know the time frame regarding the implementation of the exercise because other upcountry courts risked collapsing. 
 
Malocha said primary courts structures especially in Mtosiwa ward which was constructed during the colonial era has never been rehabilitated posing threat to users.
 
In 2014/15 financial year, the ministry was denied Sh48.5bln to implement various development projects including rehabilitation and construction of other courts due to finances shortfalls.
 
The deputy minister nevertheless assured parliamentarians in Dodoma that her ministry has already held talks with the treasury to release 30 per cent of development fund for implementing the project starting with wrecked courts.
 
She said such rehabilitation at regional and other 43 at district level will source funds from development fund.
