Tanzania Truck Drivers Association (TTDA) has raised concerns over government delays in fulfilling their demands made at Ubungo on driving licenses, work contracts and fines after more than eight hours strike earlier this month.
TTDA General Secretary, Rashid Salehe said the signed agreements with the Minister for Labour and employment Gaudentia Kabaka has not been worked out to their satisfaction.
Salehe said their meeting with the Deputy Minister Dr Makongoro Mahanga on April 18 to raise their concerns regarding employment contracts did not bare fruits because government stands raised more question than answers.
“The answers we got from the government during our meeting with Dr Mahanga insinuated governments’ rejection to our demands,” he said.
He said they discovered that the proposed program of renewing driving licenses for drivers with class ‘E’ ‘C1’ ‘C2’ ‘C3’ and ‘C’ still stands, contrary to the minister and Dar es Salaam Police special zone commander speeches made to dissolve their strike.
He said drivers will be holding a meeting this week to come up with the way forward and update their fellows on what transpired during their meeting with Dr Mahanga.
On Monday this week, the union of upcountry buses and track drivers wrote to Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda requesting for a meeting to discuss their demands.
