NEC chairman Damian Lubuva.
He revealed this recently at a seminar for voters registration. He
said apart from the kits, other items received were stands for cameras,
envelopes, T-shirts, caps, bags and ICR Forms.
He said this was a clear indication that registration of voters for the General Election would begin on April 24 as scheduled.
“We have employed at least 200 youths who are experts in using
computers for storing information,” the officer told the opening session
of the seminar recently.
For his part, the Lindi Regional Commissioner, Yahaya Nawanda, called on officers who would undertake the exercise to be keen.
He said registration of voters was very important in determining the future of the nation.
The RC told the seminar participants that being keen would ensure
that all eligible voters who turn up are registered. The exercise in the
region begins today and is expected to be completed on May 28 this
year.
Early this week, the NEC announced that it had received 1,600 BVR kits.
NEC chairman Damian Lubuva told journalists that his office had
received 248 kits that would be used in training officials before the
beginning of registration in Iringa, Lindi, Ruvuma and Mtwara on April
24.
According to him, another set of 1,600 kits was expected to arrive
at the Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) in Dar es Salaam this
week.
“We will thereafter receive 1,152 kits that will be sent to
Singida, Tabora, Kigoma and Kagera regions on a date to be communicated
later,’’ Lubuva said.
