There
is a new twist in the annual Charity Goat Races, with organisers
holding a goat auction to add to current fundraising efforts.
Seven goats will go up for sale in the auction, which is being held at The Little Theatre, next to St. Peter’s Church, today and entrance is free. The event will start at 6pm and the first goat will go under the hammer at 7.30 pm.

Charity Goat Races Committee chairperson Karen Stanley said
yesterday that although no one will actually take a goat home, goat
owners get naming rights and other benefits, whilst helping to raise
money for Tanzanian charities.
“We always say just one goat can make a difference, and the auction is a great example of this.
“Every shilling raised on the night will go to support a number of Tanzanian charities,” Mrs Stanley noted.
“So the money raised from one goat can help fund a new toilet block
or a medical camp or a child’s cancer biopsy,” she elaborated.
Attendees will also be entertained with a DJ and Bollywood theme
dancers and delicious food will be available from the Gourmet, the new
restaurant at the Theatre.
Organisers would also like to thank the community for the support they have received this year.
“The support we continue to receive has been wonderful, from The
Little Theatre generously sponsoring the venue this evening, to our
sponsors who are always willing to lend a hand,” Mrs Stanley further
noted.
The first Dar es Salaam Charity Goat Races were held in 2001, and
since then the event has helped raised almost one billion shillings and
become Dar’s premier charity event.
