Tasaf to grant millions for undertaking projects.

The Tanzania Social Action Fund (Tasaf)
The Tanzania Social Action Fund (Tasaf) has declared grants to about 1 million households in 159 district councils in Tanzania as a part of the Poverty Eradication Programme comprised of  various projects that includes irrigation farming.

Tasaf Director of Internal Audit Christopher Sanga said on Thursday during a meeting with the regional coordinator and advisors from Geita, Kagera and Shinyanga that the projects planned for Tasaf phase III would help people on Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar to eradicate poverty by planting fruit trees, establishing sources of water and introducing irrigation farming to help boost their incomes.

Tasaf Conditional Cash Transfer Manager Omari Malila said public rallies involving local government authorities will be used as a major means to wage the campaign and identify intended beneficiaries.

“Tasaf only oversees the project and advise the people where necessary but citizens are the ones responsible for identifying low income families and establish relevant development projects that will help improve their income,” he said, noting that the foundation is an instrument instituted by the government to empower communities, facilitate their participation in planning and implementation of the projects.
