Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco) Managing Director Felchesmi Mramba.
Mramba said the country has enough resources to generate power and
the ongoing electricity power-cuts in some parts of the country results
from dilapidated infrastructures.
He said heavy rains experienced last month in some parts of the country including Dar es Salaam has contributed to black-outs.
“We have made huge electricity investments aimed at stabilising
energy in the country, he said adding that such an investment has not
been made for the past 30 years”.
Tanzania started replacing the old electricity infrastructure with
an aim of ending unnecessary power black-outs in 2012 and is expected to
be completed by December this year.
He said such initiatives have led to the installation of power
plants at various localities in the country including the city, where a
MVA100 has been installed to accommodate all city residents by August
this year.
“The current plant in the city generates MVA30 only which is not
enough compared to the increasing Dar es Salaam population,” he said
adding, “a lot of funds we generate is channeled to infrastructure
