
Zanzibar’s First Vice President Maalim Seif Sharif Hamad
The VP arrived at the court at 09:49 hours and stayed in the
chambers of the court’s In-Charge until 11:02 hours when the
hearing begun.
The prosecution led by Principal State Attorney Bernard Kongola
informed Principal Resident Magistrate Cyprian Mkeha that the case was
brought for mention and read the charges against two of the accused.
Kongola also informed the court that investigation into the case is
complete and as a result, the defence, led by advocate Job Kerario
removed their Preliminary Objection (PO) to continuity of the case.
Following the developments, the court adjourned the case to May 5 this year when it will be brought for the preliminary hearing.
Apart from Prof Lipumba others accused in the case are Shaban
Ngurangwa (56), Shaban Kasakwa (29), Shaban Poloni (40), Juma Mattar
(54), Mohamed Kimugi (40), Athumani Ngumwai (40) and Shaweji Mohamed
(39).
Others are Abdul Juma (40), Hassan Said (40), Hemed Joho (46),
Mohamed Mbaruku (31), Issa Hassan (52), Allan Ally (53), Kaisi Kaisi
(51), Abdina Abdina (41), Allawi Msenga( 53), Mohamed Mtutuma (53),
Salehe Ally (33), Abed Hatibu (34) and Bakari Maleja(43).
The remaining accused are Abdalah Ally (32), Said Mohmaed (40),
Salim Mwafisi , Salehe Rashid (29), Abdalah Said (45), Rehema Kawambwa
(49), Salma Nduwa (42), Athumani Said (39), Dickson Leason (37) and
Nurdin Msati (37).
According to the charge sheet, it is alleged that on January 27,
this year within Temeke District Lipumba and his followers conspired to
commit an offence. It was alleged that on the material day at the CUF
office near Temeke Hospital, all the accused did unlawfully assembly
with intent to carry out a common purpose, to hold an illegal procession
to Mbagala Zakhem ground.
On the last count, it was alleged that the accused at Mtoni
Mtongani round-about area, engaged in riots without regard of the
lawful proclamation issued by police prohibiting the assembly and
illegal procession.
